Despite the cuts to feed-in-tariffs renewables are still a good investment, financially and environmentally.

Despite the cuts to feed-in-tariffs renewables are still a good investment, financially and environmentally. They’re an important part of the UK’s energy mix and, in some cases, provide more energy than coal generated power.

Renewable energy generation is on the rise as more and more companies and homes, recognise the benefits of self-generation. Right now solar PV can provide a cheaper source of electricity than importing from the grid, (and that includes all the installation costs) and with the estimations on future energy prices suggesting that electricity from the grid is set to increase by more than 20% by 2020 there’s never been a better time to look at the options.

Choosing a supplier
Ideally you’ll be looking for a renewable energy provider who has a proven track record. A good way to check longevity in the industry is a company MCS number - the lower the number the longer they’ve been around for.
More often than not a consultancy visit is the best place to start.

“Natural Generation’s design engineers have years of experience helping homeowners choose the right system for their home, whether it’s a new build or retro fitting. We'll start with a feasibility study, then - if you're happy with our conclusions - we'll plan your installation taking into account everything from grid connection, design, procurement and project management, through to installation, site work and ongoing technical assistance and maintenance.” Graeme Buck, Head of Sales & Marketing, Natural Generation

Beware the hard sell and cheap prices
Make sure you talk to a few companies or advisors to ensure you have a clear picture of what will work for you and make sure you are comparing like for like. It’s worth making sure you choose good quality, branded products to ensure longevity of the system and optimum performance. There’s no sense in installing cheaper equipment that will need replacing or extra services to keep it working. Remember the old adage – buy cheap buy twice.

Consider the long term
Just like a car your renewables will need a bit of looking after. Look for a company who have routine maintenance options and  / or emergency call outs to help fix any glitches that may have appeared during or since the install.

Natural Generation are number 29 on the MCS register and have a dedicated maintenance division. To find out how Natural Generation can help you with your renewable install or help maintain a system you already have call 01872 571700 or visit www.naturalgen.co.uk
