The main purpose for these changes is to ensure the reduction of unnecessary tripping by lowering the sensitivity of the RoCoF, resulting in additional stability to the grid. All owners of generation that have been installed and connected to the network before February 2018 must comply with the new setting requirements.
The NGESO and DNO’s have set up a funding scheme – ALoMCP (Accelerated Loss of Mains Change Programme), it is designed to incentivise the commitment to ensure action is taken quickly. Although the changes have a deadline of September 2022, the funding is highly likely to run out long before that date. The grants are awarded on a first come, first serve basis and the grant windows are currently worked out on a quarterly basis and there is no guarantee your submission will be accepted on the first attempt, but will then be automatically re-entered into the next quarterly window. We have just entered Window No. 3 (from 12/02/2020).
