Pengreep Estate, near Truro in Cornwall, wanted to reduce its electricity costs, improve energy resilience and generate more of its own clean power. With a large site and significant daytime electricity demand, a commercial-scale solar PV system with battery storage offered an effective long-term solution.

Natural Generation designed and installed a 131.04kW solar PV system, combining roof-mounted and ground-mounted solar arrays with advanced battery storage and high-performance inverters to maximise energy generation and onsite consumption.

The Installation

The completed system includes:

• 131.04kW commercial solar PV system
• 288 Tongwei Solar 455W N-Type bifacial dual-glass solar panels
• SolarPort ground-mounted mounting system
• K2 roof mounting system
• 2 Fronius Verto 25kW three-phase inverters
• Alpha ESS Storion battery energy storage system with 120.4kWh capacity
• Smart metering and complete AC/DC electrical infrastructure

The combination of roof and ground-mounted arrays enabled the estate to make the best possible use of the available space while achieving a high system capacity.

Battery Storage for Greater Energy Independence

A key part of the project was the integration of the Alpha ESS Storion 120.4kWh battery storage system.

Rather than exporting excess solar generation back to the grid immediately, the battery stores surplus electricity produced during the day for use later when demand is higher or solar generation is lower. This increases self-consumption, reduces reliance on imported electricity and helps protect the estate from rising energy prices.
