The Solar System We Installed

14 x JA Solar 450W panels
- 6 panels mounted on a pitched roof using Schletter rail
- 8 panels mounted on a K2 ballasted system for flat roofs
- All panels fitted with optimisers for peak performance
5kW Huawei inverter for efficient power conversion
7kWh Huawei battery to store excess solar energy for use during the evening or on cloudy days

This combination allows Joe and Mags’ home to generate and store clean energy, reducing the need to buy electricity from the grid and protecting them against rising energy costs.

The above screenshot shows that the solar panels are generating 4.14 kW of clean energy, with 2.38 kW is being sent to the battery, which is currently 53% full - great for storing energy for use later, like in the evening.

0.90 kW of their solar energy is being used to power their home, covering their current electricity needs.

0.86 kW is being exported to the grid, meaning their system is producing more than they need, so they’re sending that excess energy out and earning credit through their energy provider’s export scheme.

In short, the system is working beautifully: powering their home, storing energy, and feeding the grid all at once.

This screenshot shows how much solar energy the system generated and used in July 2025. Here's a simple breakdown:

The solar panels produced 611.13 kWh of electricity:

231.36 kWh (about 38%) was used to power the home.
The remaining 379.77 kWh (about 62%) was sent back to the grid, likely earning credit or income depending on their energy tariff.

The home used 252.85 kWh of electricity this month:

229.08 kWh (over 90%) of that came directly from the solar panels.
Only 23.77 kWh (under 10%) was drawn from the grid; showing they’re using mostly clean, self-generated power.

This means that Joe and Mags are generating more energy than they use, covering most of their electricity needs with solar and sending a good amount back to the grid. That’s great news for both their wallet and the environment!
