Recognising the high energy demand inherent in running two busy Londis sites (Bridge Stores in Goonhavern and Perranporth Services), Perranporth Services Ltd company partnered with Natural Generation in October 2025 to design and install two high-performance solar PV systems.
Their main aims were clear: to use as much renewable energy as possible, to dramatically reduce their reliance on grid electricity, and to future-proof the business against rising energy costs across both locations.
About Perranporth Services Ltd
Perranporth Services Ltd operates two essential commercial hubs that serve both local residents and tourists in North Cornwall. These sites combine the convenience of a Texaco fuel station with the full retail offering of a Londis convenience store.
Their operations, which include fuel pumps, refrigeration units, lighting, and general retail power, demand a constant supply of electricity, making them ideal candidates for large-scale commercial solar integration.
Solar System Overview
Natural Generation delivered a tailored, robust, and reliable solar solution for the business, designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing flat and pitched roof structures across both sites.

The system at Bridge Stores was designed to work with a complex roof layout, combining ballasted arrays on the main flat roof with a smaller array of panels on the pitched section:
- 27.9 kWp system
- Ballasted PV arrays on flat roof, plus 7 panels on pitched roof
- 62 x Trina Solar 450W panels
- Huawei 600W optimisers
- Huawei 20kW inverter

The larger system at Perranporth Services utilised the available flat roof space to achieve maximum generation capacity:
- 33.3 kWp system
- Ballasted PV arrays on flat roofs
- 74 x Trina Solar 450W panels
- Huawei 600W optimisers
- Huawei 10kW and 15kW inverters
In total, the dual installation provides over 61 kWp of clean power, ensuring maximum energy harvest and system resilience across both properties.
Client Feedback
The success of this project was supported by clear communication and a streamlined installation process from our team. Here's what the team at Perranporth Services Ltd had to say about their experience:
"We are delighted with the installation of the solar systems at both sites. From yourself (Natural Generation's Managing Director, Magnus), the office and account teams, to the installation crew and electricians, everyone has been so helpful throughout the whole process. It can feel a bit daunting undertaking something of this scale, but you really put us at ease right from the initial conversations and planning stages. The regular updates during the install and the clear handover at the end made everything straightforward and stress-free. Thank you for your professionalism and support."
The Impact of Going Solar
The two systems have immediately started to deliver outstanding results, with remarkably high on-site energy use, meaning that both sites are running almost entirely on their own solar energy, instead of electricity from the grid:

By achieving an average self-consumption rate of 94.5% across both sites, Perranporth Services Ltd is maximising its return on investment. The Perranporth Services site, in particular, has seen a 45% reduction in energy costs, showcasing the massive potential of solar for savings costs in high-demand commercial operations.
The combined systems also avoid the equivalent of 14 tons of CO₂ annually, showing a serious commitment to sustainability and helping to reduce emissions in our local environment.

Energy Resilience and Future Growth
This dual site investment in solar allows Perranporth Services Ltd to lock in lower operating costs and gain greater energy resilience, benefiting both their business and the local Cornish communities that they serve.
Crucially, businesses in Cornwall installing solar systems also help to support our local grid. Cornwall experiences a significant strain on its energy infrastructure during the peak summer months; by achieving a remarkable average self-consumption rate of 94.5%, Bridge Stores and Perranporth Services are drawing almost no power from the local network during daylight hours. This significant reduction in load helps to stabilise the grid for surrounding homes and businesses when demand is highest, turning two major commercial energy users into local assets that bolster the region's overall energy resilience.
This project is a powerful example of how businesses can make the most of multiple solar system installations to unlock significant financial, environmental and community benefits.
